End of Thanksgiving holiday

Hope everyone had a nice holiday. Friday was a fairly calm day at work and I managed to get out at a decent time. I went to my apartment for lunch and clean things up before my parents came into town. We went out to Kris's parents house to hang out with her sister before she left to go back to school. I think my allergies combined with her dad having a cold got me sick.

So on Saturday morning I woke up with a terrible sore throat that got better as the morning progressed. My mom called around 1pm and said they were on their way. We made reservations at one of the nicer italian resturants called Sangiovese which was good. The waiter pissed me off because my mom wanted their "house" salad to which the waiter replied, "Ma'am we don't have a house salad." She said well what do you have and he said, "Well whatever is in the menu" and she had taken her reading glasses off. He finally said you can have our blah blah blah which is like a house salad. I guess I could've made a really big issue out of it but I decided not to. I still think I shouldn't have given him the 20% gratuity on a $130 bill.

Anyway we had a nice dinner none the less and spent some time today bonding. I've pretty much laid down my guns in terms of my distaste for her boyfriend. I guess being standoffish isn't so great but I think it's taken me about 9 months to come around to this point. I don't approve of a lot of the things he does, but he's human like us all.

This week will probably be a somewhat busy one and all the weekends riding up to the holidays will be busy as well. I need to take some time off.

If you're bored and looking for a reason to get pissed off, I was perusing Doc Searl's blog when I saw an Sifry's blog pointing to Dan Gillmor's blog with this entry:

"Washington Post: In Terror War, 2nd Track for Suspects. The Bush administration is developing a parallel legal system in which terrorism suspects -- U.S. citizens and noncitizens alike -- may be investigated, jailed, interrogated, tried and punished without legal protections guaranteed by the ordinary system."

Also I read a Salon.com book review of "War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning" by Chris Hedges. It just reminds me of Clockwork Orange in some strange way where war serves no real purpose except to keep the adrenaline rush going. The review itself goes into much more depth and I can't give it any real justice so go ahead and read the review or perhaps the book itself.

There's a lot of interesting stuff out there, wish I had time to suck it all in.
