Love and War
Love:
Kris was prodding me to get a map for our wedding put together so we could send it out with invitations. I was disappointed that there wasn't anything out there on the web on how to make nice looking maps. I also failed to realize that I had a decent program to do the job right under my nose. It's part of Openoffice and it's Openoffice Draw. It took a couple of hours but I put something together I'm happy with.
War:
I'm almost positive I'll be paying for some extra bandwidth I used due to my mirroring of the POW clip from Al Jazeera. In a trackback posting, there was discussion debating whether or not we should be posting this.
My main reasons were two-fold. 1) I want to help convey the gravity of war that I think so many of us including mass media overlook and 2) It's important for everyone to have a choice to view information and maybe by doing so it will have made a difference to someone. Regardless of whether we win or lose, someone somewhere is losing. Also we keep getting the wrong impression from the White House administration and I'm tired of hearing "Oh we need to have this war on (insert drugs, terrorism, whatever)" and then not too long after we've been doing it you hear "Well make no mistake folks, this is going to be long and harder than what we thought before". It's utter SHIT. Stuff happens but get a CLUE.
Important link:
Sean-Paul over at the Agonist is doing some very phenomenal posting and if you're looking for play-by-play concise reporting along with very good discussion, please stop by there.
