Tip #2 - Live power
The process of wiring new circuits in breakers can be an easy one but disasterous if not done carefully. Sometimes we may be wiring ceiling fans, new light fixtures, or even 220 volt circuits for large commercial equipment. This tip was discovered while talking to someone and seeing a huge flash out of the corner of my eye.
An electrician was attaching a wire to a new breaker he failed to turn off first. It flashed a brilliant bright light and he fell back away from the panel. I watched for a second and he looked a little stunned but shut off the breaker and continued working.
Lesson Learned: Don't play with live power.
