We are fortunate

A couple of things have happened in the last week or so. The first is that my uncle who needed a liver transplant didn't make it. My mom called me last Saturday while I was at work and let me know he had passed so Kris and I had to head for Michigan quickly. He was a second father to me. He had been suffering for awhile now so I'm really at peace about his passing but we're all going to miss him terribly.

The second is that I brought my cousin and our friend down to stay with us for a couple of days. I've known this friend for about twelve years but hadn't talked to her in about ten. We got to spend a bit of time catching up but Kris and I had to work so it wasn't nearly enough. Having such a great friend along with the little one my wife and I are expecting are enough to remind me of how fortunate we are.

Addition on the way

Tomorrow morning I have to go check out a potential daycare. Yep, it's true. My wife and I are expecting a new addition to our family due in November.

Life is amazing.

House subcommittee endorses end to PBS/NPR funding

baltimoresun.com - Lawmakers seek to starve Big Bird

From the opinion piece:
The subcommittee's chairman, Republican Rep. Ralph Regula of Ohio, said the cuts have nothing to do with widely publicized conservative dissatisfaction with perceived liberal bias in public radio or TV programs. Rather, he said, cuts are needed to balance the federal budget.

Nevertheless, I'll believe Congress really cares about balancing the budget when I see it roll back - at least a teeny bit - President Bush's wartime tax cuts.

Speak out against the cuts by at least signing this petition and even calling your senators and representatives.

CNN, what about Darfur?

Picture 2.png

I don't know what I was thinking. "Brangelina" impacting CNN's parent company's ticket sales of the new film "Smith" is absolutely more important than Darfur. Why pick on CNN? Because I can.
